RENNARDSON NEWS on New Road is the latest local retail premises in Hedon to become vacant. It follows on from closures at Game People on George Street and the Wardrobe Boutique at Watmough’s Arcade (which now operates via 36 Fletchergate and as an online store).

On the positive side, the old Audio Room premises on St Augustine’s Gate will be taken on by Heron Foods, who have recently applied for Planning Permission for a new name sign for the premises. And the Potters Cabin, as reported on the Blog, has opened up in Market Place.

  1. until someone at the top realises that the business rates in Hedon are ridiculously high when you relate them to footfall then only high profit margin businesses will survive, it crazy to think that business rates on Holderness road are much less than those in Hedon.

  2. Just a thought for any up and coming entrepreneur. Does anyone think that the closed Rennardson News on New Road would make a great Weigh & Save (Barrel shop/Scoop shop)? It would be ideal for anyone living on their own or someone who has to count the pennies they’d just buy what they need. Plus it would be a bit of competition for the over priced supermarkets
