WHILST OUT doing some serious undercover research yesterday (See Twitter Pub Spy) the Cock & Bell in Preston provided me with a copy of CAMRA’S Pub Mirror.

The quality if this publication by the Hull and East Yorkshire Branch of the Campaign for Real Ale has certainly improved since I last saw a copy – it’s quite an attractive and pleasant read – if you like the subject of ‘beer’ that is!

You can read a copy of the Pub Mirror below and on page 15 is an article by Pete Mason about the CAMRA Survey Trip to Hedon in June which took in the Shakespeare Inn and the Haven Arms.

The beer in both pubs was deemed of an acceptable quality by the CAMRA team.

On sale in The Shakespeare, provided by a smiling Phil Lowe, was Taylor’s Best Bitter, Tetley Bitter, Black Sheep, Golden Sheep, Marston’s EPA and Thwaites Wainwright.

Haven Arms, provided – I’m sure by an equally smiley Mark and Alison Hawksworth – Camerons Strongarm, Ruby Ale, Black Sheep, Sharps Doombar, Taylor’s Best Bitter, and Tom Wood’s Best Bitter. The CAMRA team also benefited from ham sandwiches and chunky chips!

I also note from Pub Mirror that there is a vacancy for a Pub Liaison Officer (Support Position) for Hedon – I don’t know what is involved in that role, but can somebody take it on – pleeeease!
