Gloomy start to season for local Cricket enthusiasts

10:06 am

THE HEDON BASED South Holderness Cricket Club senior section  have experienced their worst start to their campaigns for many a season with only a single victory – the 1st’s success over Hessle –  out of  the two team’s eleven starts to date (writes Malc Ripley).

The other three combined results being one winning draw, two losing draws and seven defeats, the only real brighter spots on an otherwise dull horizon being the better efforts put in by their four up-and-coming Junior teams, which one hopes augers well for the club’s future!

At Middle Lane, the An Xl tumbled to their fourth very disappointing reverse at the hands of Nafferton, who coasted to an easy seven wicket success  replying with their 159 for 3 winning total.

At the Hull University, hosts Hill Top CC defeated a ten man – for the second successive week – first team by an easy seven wicket margin after being asked to score a mere 112 to win.  Promising 18-year-old left arm senior Connaire Brattan took 2 for 56 in the their third defeat after the visitors were dismissed earlier for 111 in 47 overs.

Only opener Craig McFadyen with a patient 35, Neil Colclough with his four boundaries in 21, Captain Rich Ingram (17), Rich Rosindale (11) and John Brattan with 10 reached double figures for the Hedon outfit on a consistent batting pitch with a short of par total showing for their efforts

Both teams will be looking to bounce back after these recent disappointments.

Matches for Saturday 9th June 2012 – South Holderness An Xl play away to Old Hymerians. Holderness entertain Kirk Ella at Middle Lane, Hedon at 1pm

  1. Hot off the press from Malc Ripley:

“After their recent dismal efforts, South Holderness CC first eleven put up an improved showing on Monday 4th June, to come away with the worst of a Draw at North Ferriby, settling for a share of the points in an encounter reduced to 40 overs apiece with their 175 for 4 reply.”
