PERMISSION has been given to hold Bonfire Night celebrations at Far Bank, Hedon including a Fireworks Display on Saturday 5 November 2022.
The land off Drapers Lane is owned by the people of Hedon via the Town Council who last night at its Finance & General Purposes Committee gave permission for an event to be staged there, although the council would not play any role in organising the event. The council has waived any fees for using the land confident that a free community event is being proposed.
The idea for Bonfire Night at Far Bank has come from the Haven Arms pub and restaurant. Mark Hawksworth from the pub said on Wednesday: “Following Hedfest and after realising the potential of staging events there, then we are keen to hold a fireworks event at Far Bank. We have held a free Bonfire Night and a Fireworks Display on our own pub grounds for years, but there have been greater difficulties in doing this every year, so this year we had decided not to do it. But doing an event on Far Bank offers greater scope and we can work in partnership once again with the King’s Head, which worked really well at Hedfest.”
As organisers, the pubs would be responsible for the entire event (safety and lighting, licenses, insurance, staging, etc) and so at this stage, we can not confirm it will take place. However, it would probably be a safe bet to put Saturday 5 November down in your diary as ‘Bonfire Night at Far Bank’ and perhaps anticipate other entertainment too.
