Disappointment at no Hedon Bonfire Night 2022 🙁
Mark Hawksworth from the Haven Arms has contacted us to say that there will be no Hedon bonfire night fireworks display this year.
Disappointing news I am afraid. I will try to keep it short.
After many problems and setbacks, last week we thought we had cracked it and could put on a show on our own land this year. We were waiting final confirmation from the pyrotechnic contractors yesterday before telling everyone. Today, sadly, the company who ware equally pulling out all the stops despite a full book of events, have informed us it will not be possible to do the display due to sudden staff illness. They have the gear, just nobody to fire it. So the dream is over for this year.
There are huge difficulties facing the firework industry such as being unable to trade over the covid lockdowns, the doubling in the price of materials they use, staff shortages and costs, insurance hikes, as well as all other inflationary costs faced by the rest of us. It is not going to be easy to get affordable displays in the future so the whole bonfire night thing might be much less than it was going forward which is a massive shame. But we are not giving up.
We will try again next year.
We will try again next year, we should know by march if our usual contractor can do it, and if its a yes, we will let you know in good time so plans can be made.
We have enjoyed over many years prior to covid putting on a Bonfire Night for the people of Hedon and it makes us sad that we cannot do so this year. It was always going to be a massive job at short notice and I hope that having more time for next year will bring a better result.
Thanks for your understanding.
