Candidates should send statements and a photo to hedonblog@gmx.com (changes and updates to the published statements can be made via the same e-mail – Ray Duffill, Editor).

Polling day is Thursday 7th May 2015 from 7am – 10pm.

Sue Steel is a Conservative Party Candidate for South West Holderness in the East Riding of Yorkshire Council Election 2015.

Sue SteelI was born in Hull but moved to Hedon nearly 30 years ago. Having retired in May 2014, I’m really keen to commit my time and offer my valuable NHS experience to making a difference for this ward.

I worked for Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals for over 40 years as a clinical scientist and manager. l specialised in the field of osteoporosis (brittle bone disease) that affects primarily those over 55 years. This gave me insight into some of the difficulties facing many in later life.

Through my work I also gained knowledge and experience of the way the local hospital system works and how it interacts with community based services.

I am very proud to have been selected to stand for the South West Holderness Ward and be given the opportunity to work alongside experienced councillors, particularly my fellow candidates John Dennis and Mike Bryan. I have observed how local councilors can deliver real improvements for local communities. I am particularly impressed how East Riding Council has succeeded in continuing to maintain local services and deliver positive change, despite substantial reductions in government funding, without any increase in council tax.

Using experience I have developed over the years I hope to help ensure the infrastructure is available locally to support care for the elderly and others in need.

I am also keen to retain the rural character and charm of our area whilst encouraging new developments such as high-speed broadband. I also believe in encouraging and supporting local businesses whilst resisting overdevelopment and becoming overrun by urban sprawl.

If elected I intend to do all I can to represent local residents on those issues of most concern to them and to promote pride in our neighbourhood.

I am therefore asking for your vote on May 7th so that I may use my time and experience to help the local community.
