James is no stranger to charity events, he helps organise charity football Fun Day events held at Eastside every year, and tries to do something physical for charity each year too – but this year, he says, the Marathon is a big step up from the 10k runs and shorter distances he is used to!
The London Marathon is a gruelling 26 miles 385 yards long and despite James having trained for 5 months on the streets around the East Riding (an estimated 500 miles worth of training runs), he fears the last 10 miles will be the hardest!
“From training runs I have done anything over 18 miles starts to hurt and it becomes less about how fit you are but how mentally strong you are.”
James has been motivated to tackle the famous course because of the benefits it will bring to his chosen charity.
“The Children with Cancer charity was born out of unimaginable circumstances for one family in the late 1980’s but continues to this day to raise money for children with cancer and those families and loved ones affected.
“My inspiration is that everybody knows somebody who has been directly effected by cancer. My family and circle of friends is no different. The hard training is worth it knowing you are potentially helping to fight this horrible disease.
“Any pledge of money to help me along the 26 miles would be greatly received”
James has set up a Virgin Money Giving Fundraising Page at the link below – and we are sure that Hedon Blog readers will want to show their support.
