MARKET HILL was cordoned off this morning as Humberside Police investigated the scene of an early morning explosion in the Car Park.

Residents reported an explosion at 1:45am this morning and came out to see a fire in the car park in front of the wall near to Church View Surgery. Police attended the incident and later sealed off the whole of the car park area as a precautionary measure. Cars were prevented from leaving the car park and access to the GP practices was via the footpath only.
Local Town Councillors Mike Brian, Alan Marshall and Neil Black were drafted in to help with staffing the police tape cordon, to temporarily redirect traffic and let the public know what was going on.
Parents arriving at the Market Hill Nursery were alarmed that the cordon had not been in place when they dropped their children off before 9am. If there had been any risk to the public, then the car park should have been sealed off earlier declared one irate parent.
A police statement issued earlier this afternoon indicated only that the police had attended the incident and taken precautionary measures.

This was the scene at the Market Hill incident just after 6pm after the police had finished operations. There were no obvious signs of an explosion or fire on the ground – but there was a tar-like stain remaining. We wait to hear the official report of the incident from Humberside Police.

AN EXPLOSION that rocked Hedon last June 2013 has been described as being caused as a result of “foolish behaviour”.
Three men aged 42, 37 and 31 were detained overnight and questioned by detectives, but no one is to be prosecuted.
Detective Inspector Paul Kirby is quoted in the Hull Mail as saying: “Our enquiries would suggest that while this may have caused initial alarm to the local community, we do not believe this was anything more than foolish behaviour on behalf of those involved.”
There have been reports of police activity related to this case in Preston and in Burstwick. There have been several unconfirmed reports that another explosion took place in Pinfold Lane, Burstwick. We’ve covered on HU12 Online which covers the wider Holderness patch:

A press release issued at 6:20pm last night stated that the three men are now in police custody awaiting questioning by detectives. They are aged 42, 37 and 31.
Inquiries into the incident are ongoing and officers still wish to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time of the small explosion and who may have seen anything suspicious.
Detective Inspector Paul Kirby said:
Final photograph from yesterday’s incident scene – a visual study showed a small tar-like stain which was quite easy to miss – certainly no blackening or scorching of the surface.
Also included a picture of the Car Park sign which has long attracted the humour of visitors; but perhaps adequately sums up the current confusion and mystery associated with this incident!
Also worth noting the light-heartened comment from Councillor Mike Bryan yesterday; “At least its sorted out our parking problem for a day!” – as residents know Market Hill has been an area long-associated with problem parking in the town!

Took child in to pre school and then came outside to bomb squad and went back in to pull my daughter out.
“Bomb scare” – Is there anything to support any theory that an actual bomb was involved, or are we talking stupid kids lighting cans of deodorant?
