THE SENIOR CRICKET team play Kirk Ella Cricket Club at Middle Lane, Hedon on Saturday 11th May 2013. Spectators welcome!

The South Holderness first eleven match starts at 1pm and the Match Ball sponsor is J. P. Dennis, Estate Agents, Hedon.

It is hoped that the team can better their performance of last week, which was a very close match!…. Our cricket commentator Malc Ripley takes up the story:

Cricket ballThe first team went down to a narrow one wicket reverse at Norwood Park, where Beverley Town 3rds scrambled the winning run with only three deliveries remaining, with their last pair at the crease in a very tense finish

Kevin Thompson with his 49 and the hard-hitting Paul Fleming (62), played major roles in the Beavers success, new skipper Andy Burton playing a duel role with 3 for 33 in a rare bowl, as well as supplying a solid 27 runs, in their winning 226 for 6 total.

The Hedon based side’s skipper Rich Ingram, also had a fine match, only to end on the losing side, earlier hitting the top score with 52 before taking 3 for 36 with the ball, whilst Rich Rosindale lent a hand to finish with 3 for 24 in 12 accurate overs. The big all-rounder previously had added 15, when Policeman Neil Colclough, was drafted into the 1st team, going onto make his best score, worth an unbeaten 31, whilst Phil Hill was welcomed back after suffering a horribly broken leg during the 2012 season, coming up trumps with a sound 33, to help put up the 48 over total of 225 for 8, as the runs flowed once more on a quick outfield.

The second An XI also failed to secure a victory:

After recording two wins previously, visitors Roos CC put up stern resistance at Middle Lane, to earn a Draw as their 40 overs expired with the visitors on 103 for 7, in reply to the Holderness total of 194 for 4, to share the spoils, when the Match Ball Sponsor, was former opening bowler for the Club Pete Robson.

Andy Kunkell, Chris White and Graham Slinger all finished with a brace of wickets for the home side, whereas their long serving all-rounder John Dearing batted well for a solid 33 supported by Rich Smith with his 39.

The An Xl again enjoyed fine batting from veteran Steve Crane, who has remarkably returned to the fold, following a 20 odd year lay-off, and he once more found good form, with his 40 containing six fours before being stumped. Steve figured in an attractive stand worth 85, with vice-captain, left-hander and opener Gary Chapman, contributing 6 boundaries in his sound unbeaten 65.

Showing returning enthusiasm, Eddie Samphire crashed five fours, in a typical quick fire 37, despite Mike Roberts claiming 3 for 38 in a fine spell, to put paid to the home side’s 100% record.
