ELECTION NEWS:

THERE is an ELECTION for a new Hedon Town Councillor.Hedon Methodist Church Polling Station sign

Two candidates have been nominated, they are:

Steve Gallant who on the official notice is described as a Labour Party candidate.

Sarah Jane Rommell who is described as Independent of any political party.

The poll will take place on the Thursday 25th April 2013.

Polling Station: Hedon Methodist Church, Church Lane – 7am – 10pm

NOTE: There will be NO POLLING CARDS issued for this election.

The decision not to issue polling cards means that publicity for the election – letting people know that it is on – will be down to the local media and a supply of official election notices posted in public buildings, shop windows, etc. And of course the candidates can produce their own election material.

So PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD that an election is on – You do not need a polling card to vote on Thursday 25th April 2013!

  1. It’s a shame the election is not going to be widely publicised by the County Council.
I’d like to see as big a turnout as possible. And at least we are having an election and a choice, rather than someone being co-opted on as usual !

    1. The option of publicising the election was considered but rejected because of the several thousands it would have cost Hedon Town council, and in turn its residents.
Don’t think the residents would have been too happy for that type of money being spent.
Of course Steve, you can publicise it as much as you like!

      1. Thanks John, I’ll do what I can to raise awareness. But the rules stop candidates spending very much as you know..
And if we dont publicise elections, what price democracy ?

        1. The effective councillor will be one who gets best value from least expenditure. You’ll need good shoe leather to achieve that Steve!
          Good luck in your campaign.

  2. UPDATE: It has been revealed that there will be NO POLLING CARDS issued for this election.

The decision means that publicity for the election – letting people know that it is on – will be down to the local media and a supply of official election notices posted in public buildings, shop windows, etc. And of course the candidates can produce their own election material.

    1. Hi Aly – The next full Parish and Town elections will be in May 2015. They will probably take place alongside the General Election which has already been scheduled for 7th May 2015.

    1. Neil, there are two LOCAL candidates – My family have been lived, worked and been active in the area for 40 years….. (and I dont think there’s much age difference, not that I think its really relevant if the candidate can fulfill the role)
      .
And I have 30 years of success in major businesses behind me and now have the time to put something back into my local community as I only work parttime running a successful consultancy from home.
