THE RAIN STOPPED a lot of activities over the last weekend, and that included those of South Holderness Cricket Club, but there is still lots to catch up on – see this report from Malc Ripley:
As a result of Friday’s heavy rain albeit sunshine on the following day, both of the Hedon side’s matches were abandoned due to sodden grounds, leaving the Tea and Bar takings well down for yet another week.
Previously, the SHCC first Xl tumbled to a five run reverse at the hands of Newland even though the winners only totalled 83 all out with opener Paul Duncalf making a solid 32. Connaire Brattan took 3 for 18 to support vice captain Lewis Duell whose 9 overs gave him 3 for 21 figures. Skipper Rich Ingram batted himself lower down in the order to top score with 23 but only Rich Rosindale with 12 lent any kind of support, as Dave Sansam wrecked the Hedon side’s batting with superb figures of 6 for 31 in 11 overs for the promoted West Hull outfit, when John Batte returned 2 for 9 to leave Holderness struggling with only two victories to their name.
They face a tough encounter at Middle Lane this coming Saturday 14th July at 1.00pm against the improved and strong table toppers Beverley lll, with the Match Ball being Sponsored by Footprints Chiropody of Holderness Road, Hull.
After much trying, the An Xl in the York Conference Div 1, finally registered their first welcome and overdue win, when Kristian Rumble proved hard to score off to finish with figures of 5 for 35 in 13 tight overs when restricting Nafferton to just 68 for 8 in their 29 overs, Andy Berry having 2 for 9 at the other end.
In their winning 72 for 3 off 22 overs reply, Berry made a sound 20 not out helped, by the long serving Phil Allison with his unbeaten 13. They travel to Newport this time for a 2.00pm start hoping this single success will kick-start their poor campaign.
