Capturing the East Riding – Photo Competition

9:27 am

“WHAT IS THE EAST RIDING? Is it merely a series of beautiful landscapes – the picture postcard East Riding? Or is it a collection of individuals – family, colleagues, ethnic groups, insiders and outsiders? Or perhaps it is a series of places – places of work or of worship, places for sport or sites of conflict? What does the East Riding mean to you? What is your East Riding?” From the ‘Capturing the East Riding’ website.

The Hedon Blog is encouraging local residents to enter a two-stage amateur photography competition organised by the East Riding Cultural Partnership. The first stage of the competition has already started. Community groups and individuals are being invited to send their images and views of the East Riding up until 30th September 2011.

The winners from the first stage will then be entered into an East Riding-wide competition in October 2011. A panel of judges will choose the top entries, which will be exhibited at Beverley Art Gallery. This exhibition will tour the region in 2012 and showcase the artistic talent and collectively conjure a distinct ‘sense of place’ for the East Riding.

The Hedon Blog has started a new page PHOTO CONTEST which will display those photos submitted by local people who might wish to enter the competition. Send in your images to the Hedon Blog at e-mail hedonblog@gmx.com and we will send you further details of the competition.

In order to enter the formal competition individuals must agree with the terms and conditions set by the East Riding Cultural Partnership and must submit an official entry form. Full details can be found at the Capturing the East Riding website.

You do not have to enter the competition to get your photo displayed on the Hedon Blog; you might have a photo that you feel conveys your impressions of the East Riding and want it to be seen by a wider audience – if so, then just send it in to us.

Technical Requirements: Photos can be submitted by e-mail but must have a minimum Resolution of 300 dpi (this is because eventually photos might be enlarged to A3 size for display purposes). Recommended Formats: JPEG or TIF formats.

To see some example photographs already submitted for the competition see the online gallery at the Capturing the East Riding website.
