Voyage statue overlooks The Deep

The “Voyage” statue in Hull is our Sunday Jigsaw.

Created by Icelandic artist Steinunn Thorarinsdottir, “Voyage” looks out across the water on Hull Pier… apparently facing towards the Icelandic fishing grounds. There is a similar statue “Voyage – För” in Vik, Iceland, looking back. See: flic.kr/p/2j6gxLa. The two statues symbolise the close relationships between seafarers of the two countries.

Unveiled in June 2006, Hull’s “Voyage” stood in place for five years. But 2011 it was stolen, so Hull City Council agreed to spend £40,000 on a replacement moulded from its sister in Vik.

This photo of “Voyage” overlooking The Deep was taken March 29, 2025, in preparation for April’s Hedon Viewfinders’ “Black & White” month. Click the link below to go to the jigsaw.
