SURE START Children’s Centre in Hedon is celebrating after Ofsted inspectors ruled that it is providing a ‘good service’ for children and families.
The centre was ranked as ‘good’ in all key areas by inspectors who visited it in February. It was the first time the centre had been inspected by Ofsted.
The Ofsted report says leadership, governance and management at all levels are strong:
“They know what the centre does well and where further improvements are required. As a result, the centre is in a good position to continually improve its services and performance.”
The report says well-trained staff deliver high-quality support and activities in the centre and in the community, so that more families can easily access them. Staff take real pride in their work, to help keep children and families safe.
The centre, which opened in 2007, offers health services, family support and adult learning. It serves a widespread rural area which includes Burton Pidsea, Bilton, Sproatley, Burstwick, Keyingham, Preston, Paull and Thorngumbald. Services are delivered at a range of community outreach venues.
Gemma Russell, Hedon Children’s Centre leader, said: “The team has worked extremely hard, with partners, to provide high quality services that families need. We have demonstrated that by working together outcomes for children in the Hedon area are improving, and we are pleased that this is reflected in the Ofsted report.”
Councillor Julie Abraham, portfolio holder for children, young people and education, said: “I am delighted for all involved at Hedon Children’s Centre that their hard work and the good outcomes for families have been recognised by Ofsted. East Riding children’s centres play a key role in guiding new parents and helping families that may be struggling in some way, and Hedon is a great example of what they do.”
