Bokeh – Wednesday, September 23, 7:00pm.
AT THE NEXT meeting on Wednesday, September 23 we will continue with the ‘knowing your settings’ and ‘controlling your camera’ themes. BOKEH will be the subject.
Bokeh refers to the aesthetic, out-of-focus blur produced in the background or foreground of a photograph by a camera lens’s aperture.
It’s about using ‘points of light’ as an attractive background or as the main subject. The creative blur effect is created by using the aperture and focus of the camera. Christmas tree lights are often used. We’ll use lights, but bokeh can also be created using natural light. Bokeh can be shaped too – it normally is dependent on the shape of your aperture rim, but you can cut out lens-sized shapes (stars, hearts, triangles, etc) and place them over your lens too.
For this meeting you need to be able to control your camera settings and focus manually and help from other members is available to achieve this. A tripod will help and spares will be available to use if you don’t have one.
Print Competition – Wednesday 30th September.
Bring one print (up to A4 in size, unframed and unmounted) ready for display at the Haven Arms by 7pm on Wednesday, September 30. The subject of your photograph should be on one of the 52 Week Photography Challenge subjects (weeks 37 – 40) of Make us laugh, Bokeh, Toy Story or Minimalism.
