Saturday Cricket – 17th May 2014

SHCC are at home against Hornsea, while the An XI take on the Old Hymerians at their ground…

Cricket History imageAFTER rain-sodden grounds last weekend had the last say, both of the South Holderness Cricket Club teams will be hoping for some sunshine when they each play the third of their 18 matches on Saturday 17th May 2014.

The An Xl face a trip to face ‘foes of old’ in the shape of Old Hymerians CC, who they used to play in the defunct Humberside Cricket Federation way back in the nineties. With little evidence currently of either side’s performance, it appears to be a case of ‘suck it and see’ as to whom will come out on top.

The Hedon senior squad will entertain another set of old friends, when they face Hornsea Town CC seconds at Middle Lane, 1.30pm.

The pair used to figure in the former East Riding Pennant Alliance which folded in 1995, some fine games resulted in those distant days, usually especially in the latter of the 38 summers, resulting in possibly the Hedon outfit just holding sway.

A keen encounter should result this time, with veteran batsman John Savage coming out of retirement a couple of years ago, to skipper the Meresiders.
