Hands off Hedon – By David Thompson

To the councillors of Hull,
It simply cannot be,
Your extended boundaries,
For never to agree.

The traditions of this town,
Will simply not allow,
Hedon in a greater Hull,
These plans to disavow.

Hands off our Hedon silver,
And our ancient civic powers,
We shall keep your civic spoons,
That you say were never ours.

Separated by the airfield
And so long may it be,
No suburb of big brother
But autonomous and free.

Keep within your city limits
Forget this futile cause,
Flattery, but no thanks,
From here sincerely yours.
