CHRISTMAS in Hedon can be magical! Many residents will remember that wonderful moment at the Christmas Lights event in 2010 when, just as the switch was about to be thrown to illuminate the Christmas tree, it began to snow!
The image on this page was an attempt to capture that moment. Unfortunately it didn’t come of very well – and the moment was lost!
But what symbolises Christmas in Hedon to you? This is the theme of our fun Photo Competition that we are launching today.
Is it the Christmas Lights event? The shop window displays? The Christmas Tree in Market Place perhaps? The snowy scenes? People enjoying the festive atmosphere?
It’s up to you to interpret the Christmas in Hedon theme as you see fit. You can use a camera, phone, tablet or App to take the photo (but note the guidance below):
- Send us up to three entries each,
- you must be prepared and willing for us to share your images on the Blog and its social media outlets (Flickr, Facebook, Twitter, etc),
- if photographing people, the subjects must have given their consent,
- and we would like to use the winning photo to help us promote the town at Christmas with a view to having it professionally published and printed (so higher resolution images preferred).
The winning photographer – decided by the Editor, Ray Duffill, although we may introduce some online voting to help us decide – will also receive a £25 cash prize from the Hedon Blog.
E-mail us your photo entries to hedonblog@gmx.com with your name, age, location where your photo was taken if not obvious, and the title of your photograph.
The competition is meant to be fun and aims to encourage people to get snapping Hedon at Christmas time! So – Happy Snapping folks!

Due to a lack of take-up with only 3 competitors then I will not be awarding the prize this year – but will plan another competition next year with more notice, publicity and prizes!

We’ve revised the closing date for the competition to give people another chance to submit photographs – closing date is now Friday 20th December 2013 – winner gets £25.
Does the picture have to have been taken this year?
Hi Andrea – Good question! I’ve assumed it would be new pictures, but that may rule out some very good ones that fit the theme. So yes, older pictures fitting the theme are acceptable.
