Autumn brown to be replaced by spring yellow!
Pond bench – Autumn brown to be replaced by spring yellow!

EXPECT A blaze of yellow at Horsewell Pond next spring!

Hedon Primary School children are expected to get involved in a supervised daffodil bulb-planting event next week at the pond site near to the school. Hedon Mayor Jim Lindop tells us that although the work to restore the Horsewell Pond is taking longer than hoped, it doesn’t prevent additional work being done to make the area look nice in spring.

daffodilsThe daffodils are expected to be planted by the school children around the front of the pond area and around the bench.

Earlier this year natural filter beds were constructed at Horsewell Pond, and a swale (shallow ditch) was dug out linking Ivy Lane with Market Hill. Wetland plants have been planted on the filter beds and will play their part in the natural process that will clean the water channelled through the swale. A period of time has to be given to allow those plants to embed in the filtration system.

The weeds and reeds around the pond itself will have to be tackled prior to further work to actually bring permanent water back to the pond.
