SOUTH HOLDERNESS CRICKET – by Malc Ripley

In the last League match of the season, the first’s had a poor day at Eastrington CC, tumbling to an eight wicket reverse, off only 24 overs, with an uncharacteristic dismal batting display, as only Rich Ingram with 12, Stuart Towse coming out of retirement with his 13, and Andy Kunkel’ s brave effort of 5 fours, in a top score of 33, reaching double figures.

cricket wicketsGary Laverack (4 for 46 in 10 overs), together with Paul Forster’s good figures of 4 for 29 off 10, were the thorns in the sides of the Hedon outfit line up.

Classy batting by former Notts opener Paul Briggs, with seven boundaries and a big six in his fine unbeaten 47, Rich Harrison adding 16 to set up Gary Tooke (30 not out) supporting Briggs, to seal the Hedon based side’s downfall, with only 17 overs needed to do the trick.

Adam Towse took the only two wickets to fall, with 2 for 6 in a couple of overs, when skipper Ingram tried nine bowlers in an attempt to halt the winners run flow!

This was Holderness’s eleventh reverse, out of their 22 games, despite winning ten of them, and a single losing draw, for them to finish in eighth place out of 12, in their final ever East Yorkshire Alliance match.

Eastrington CC 99 for 2, beat SHCC 98 all out.

Consistent Captain Rich Ingram easily is the leading Run scorer this term, with 838 runs at 39.90 average to his credit, Lewis Duell making 427 at 26.69 to finish second.

All rounder Rich Rosindale finishes as leading wicket taker with 38 victims at an average of 16.47 apiece, whilst wicket-keeper Jamie Walkley has had an excellent summer with 28 victims — 19 caught and 9 stumped.
