THE MAYOR for 2013-14 has been confirmed as Councillor Jim Lindop. He will be the 666th Mayor of the Historic Town of Hedon. The Deputy Mayor is Councillor John Dennis.

This repeats the roles taken by the two men last year. They are photographed here outside the Town Hall on Thursday 16th May 2013 in relaxed mode with Mayoress Sue Lindop and Deputy Mayoress Jennifer Dennis just after the Mayormaking and Penny Throwing ceremonies.

At the Mayormaking Celebration held in the Alexandra Hall afterwards the Mayor laughed off any supernatural connotations regarding the 666 number, “I’m a little Devil, really!” he said.

  1. I liked the piece in Bill Jardine’s column in the Gazette this week (30th May 2013) :

    The Hedon ‘devil’

“The elevation of Jim Lindop to the giddy heights of Mayor of Hedon will no doubt have aficionados of Rosemary’s Baby and the Da Vinci Code assiduously reading their tea leaves to establish whether the fact that he is the 666th Mayor of that august town has any cosmic significance.

Mayor Lindop brushed aside concerns jokingly, however, it’s perhaps just as well that he’s a former fireman, since if a portal to the Gates of Hell unexpectedly opens in the council chamber during a meeting of the planning committee, he’ll be well placed to put the fires out.”

    Ha! Ha!

  2. Congradulations to the Mayor and Mayoress and the Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayoress.
I thoroughly enjoyed the evening and the buffet was beautiful.
