IN THEIR FIRST OUTING of the new season campaign (Sat 27th April 2013), the South Holderness Cricket Club senior squad found last year’s runners-up, Hill Top CC, far too much of a handful after the strong batting line up of the visitors, thrashed out a big total of 272 for 6 in their 48 overs, off a wilting attack.
Young head Coach Connaire Brattan at least emerged with reasonable figures of 3 for 69 off his 11 overs, supported by skipper Rich Ingram with 2 for 41 from his ten overs, for the Middle Lane side.
Lawrence Wilkinson demonstrated his fine batting talents, with a superb show when cracking 17 boundaries s and a six in an attractive 137, his runs coming all around the ground. Dan Mould supported with a solid 47, whilst brother Fergus Wilkinson added his 23 as the runs flowed.
The hosts replied with 118 for 9 to earn a hard-fought draw, when only left hander Rich Ingram, with ten fours and one six, in his fighting 71, approached anything like good form, helped by veteran Neil Green, with a defiant 15, only this pair reaching double figures.
Fergus completed an excellent all round effort to wreak havoc, with miserly figures of 4 for 18 off his 10 overs, brother Gavin taking 2 for 33.
The Hedon based team face another difficult encounter next Saturday, as they travel to Norwood Park to take on a strong Beverley Town lll, whilst the An Xl return home (2.00 pm start), to entertain Roos CC, in an Eastern Conference Match Sponsored by former player and opening bowler, Pete Robson.
