Christmas in Hedon starts TONIGHT

7:48 am

THE SWITCHING ON of the Christmas Lights in Hedon may actually only take a few seconds – but the build up to that event and the fun before and afterwards will see the town at its Christmas best!

KCFM will be broadcasting live in the town from 6pm onwards. St Augustine’s Gate will festively festooned with a variety of stalls – including cakes, charity stalls, and hot roast chestnuts. Fairground rides for the children will be situated in the Market Place – and the Christmas Tree will be standing in its traditional place there too.

Santa’s Sleigh will be making an appearance courtesy of the Holderness Lions. And Santa himself will be in his grotto in the Town Hall. More refreshments will be available in the Alexandra Hall. Seasonal music will be provided by the Army Cadets band.

Many of the shops in the town are expected to open late. Rings and Things in Watmoughs Arcade for example will be open for mince pies and seasonal drinks from 5pm. And which shop will have the best window display this year?

And this year – the council’s Customer Service Centre will be open from 4:30pm – 6:30pm as Santa’s Post Box. Go in there, write and post your letter to Santa, and his little council elves will make sure that it gets to him at the North Pole. If you go back to the Centre after Monday12th December 2011, then a reply from the white-bearded chap will be available to pick up.

Hedon Town centre really is the place to be this evening! – the temperature is expected to be about 7ºC so snow is unlikely this year – but you never know!

  1. we love it! only thing I have to say is that so does everyone else now! Hedon is a fast growing town as we know, so maybe the event should grow a little too? we couldnt move through the crowd to get to see anything as the street is too narrow for the amount of people that turn out. plenty of prams, wheelchairs etc are struggling every year to get through and it is off putting which is a shame. wondering if anyone would consider using the car park at the back of the Queens Head as well? that way it would open up more space for people and maybe give more room to stall holders and for the rides?
