GRAHAM STUART Member of Parliament for Beverley & Holderness, has called an urgent meeting this week between Yorkshire Water, local Councillors and Council officials, to demand more effective short-term action to tackle the stench coming from the Yorkshire Water Treatment Plant at Saltend.
Graham said: “What local residents have had to put up with has been horrible. We all know that a second odour control unit is being put into the plant and hope it can provide the proper long-term solution we have all been working for. Nonetheless, the smell now is outrageous and management needs to get a grip on it.
At the meeting the Councillors and I will express local residents’ disgust at Yorkshire Water’s continued failure to protect them. I will be pressing the Council to use its powers to ensure that Yorkshire Water cleans up its act.”
THE MEETING between Yorkshire Water and local politicians takes place later this afternoon. Everyone involved will be aware of the sheer size and scope of the growing campaign against the smells!
I hope that we will be able to get some feedback from this meeting to pass on to local residents – and can respond to at our own meeting on Tuesday.

Its good to see our local mp has now got on the case however I think he may be slightly uninformed, according to my information Yorkshire water have said they cannot make any guarantees that there wont be any smells even after the new odour neutralising thng is up and running,The original promise when they built this station was there would be no smells,and in my opinion that is the only solution i am prepared to accept, we have had 11 years of empty promises and enough is enough , more and more people are joining the fight by the hour and if it takes demonstrations and blockades that is what we will do.

Hello – I work for a company who supply the waste plant with an odour nutralising product and have been informed by one of my colleagues that two dosing stations were commissioned at a cost of 10K each quite a few years ago – one in Hedon and one on Bransholme but these sations were never put into operation. He also told me that YW frequently runs out of the nutralising product as they don’t order before they run out.
