AS TEMPERATURES PLUMMET once again, residents are asked to keep an eye out for those neighbours who might otherwise suffer from the affects of severe weather.

AGE UK has estimated that more than 30,000 older people die from preventable causes over the winter months. Many thousands more suffer needlessly. The last bout of severe weather in Hedon led to many elderly people feeling trapped in their own homes.

In these circumstances a simple act of good neighbourliness – clearing a path, fetching essential shopping, just letting someone know you are available in case of emergencies – can have a real impact in helping people feel safer and prevent problems developing.

In the Big Freeze – be a Big Neighbour. Spread the warmth!
