HUMBERSIDE POLICE have closed their inquiry after baby body parts were found at Yorkshire Water’s waste treatment works at Saltend in August 2009. The baby is thought to have been less than 24 weeks old.
The case saw police carry out a high profile public plea for information and a direct appeal to the baby’s mother to come forward. Despite this the police have been unable to trace the parents of the baby.
Detective Superintendent Christine Kelk said to the BBC yesterday:
Unfortunately, I think the case will now be filed as being closed. It is immensely frustrating both for myself and the countless officers who have worked on it. We have had lots of appeals through the media, officers from the major incident team, scientists from the Forensic Science Service and yet all our inquiries have yielded nothing.”
