The event is a marvellous opportunity to bring together some of those people in the country who are trying to create local community websites as vehicles to inspire community action.
“Talk About Local is a project to give people in their communities a powerful online voice. We want to help people communicate and campaign more effectively to influence events in the places in which they live, work or play.” from Talk About Local website.
I am delighted to say that the Hedon Blog will be represented at the event. The Hedon Blog aims to use and promote free and/or open source software and social media. It wants to encourage and support local people to use these easily available tools to make a real difference within Hedon. Hopefully the event on Saturday will make that job just a little bit easier!
The event has been termed an “Un-Conference” because the agenda and items for discussion are not already set in stone as in a traditional meeting. Instead they will be determined on the day by those taking part.
Unfortunately my attendance at the event means that I will not be present at the March Against The Incinerator which is also being held on Saturday. I offer my apologies for this but hope that local residents from Hull and Holderness turn out in their hundreds to give the ‘red card’ to the incinerator.
However, I do hope to come back from Talk About Local with lots of ideas for developing The Hedon Blog as a more effective community champion for the town.
Watch out for my Twitter updates from the event.
