RESIDENTS ARE BEING WARNED to be on guard following reports of a computer scam.

The fraud involves people ringing up and claiming to work for Microsoft the computer giant. They suggest that any current problems on your computer are a result of its security being compromised.

Following a lengthy call during which the scammers take you through a procedure which apparently corrects any problems, they then request your credit card details to take payment for remedial work offered.

If your computer is running slow or has problems and somebody rings you up claiming to be able to help – then it is likely to be a coincidence; the scam callers appear to ring random numbers and have no inside knowledge of your computer problems.

Humberside Police say that you should never give out your financial details over the phone!
