COUNCILLOR DAVID THOMPSON was made the 675th Mayor of Hedon on Thursday 19 May 2022 at the Mayormaking ceremony at Hedon Town Hall.

Councillor Thompson is active on the Hedon Town Council in various roles and is a key member of the Events working group working with colleagues to bring things like the annual Town Calendar out every year, the annual Dog Show “Scrufts” and the occasional but popular ‘Treasure Hunt’ trails. He is also credited, along with Phil Danby, with bringing the idea of a Hedon Festival to the town and indeed is still involved in helping with its organisation this year.

Councillor Thompson is bringing a team of fantastic street poets to Hedfest this year and he is also a very good poet himself. You can see some of his current work in the Holderness Heartbeat and in the Hedfest tribute video below.

There must be something really beneficial, indeed exciting, in having a Mayor who is also a poet and able to express that town ambassador role in verse!

Councillor Thompson’s wife Carole is the new Mayoress and will join the Civic Team for 2022/2023 of Deputy Mayor Councillor Di Storr and her official consort and friend Mrs Tracy Wright, Town Clerk Judith Macklin (until August) and Sergeant of the Mace John Dawson.

Poetry tribute to Hedfest including poems by our new Mayor Cllr. David Thompson.
