Our HU12 Online What’s On? page continues to list the main events taking place in the area. Today we look at three:
Hedon Museum, Preston Show and Ruben’s Voice.
Hedon Museum – Every Saturday and Wednesday.
IT’S THE LAST DAY of the Army Cadets Exhibition at Hedon Museum today (Sat 17 July 2021) 10 am – 4 pm. Do call in and have a look. There’s a wealth of other interesting artefacts and information from the town’s history in the Museum. There are lots to keep the children interested too with historical toys and models. There is a large model of a Zeppelin hung from the downstairs ceiling, which would have looked like the one that bombed Hedon on August 22, 1917.
On Wednesday 21 July a new exhibition of creative arts and ceramics opens – and we’ll bring you more about that next week!
Hedon Museum exists to preserve and display the history and social history of the Town of Hedon and the wider South Holderness area. It opened in 1996 and is managed by a voluntary Committee supported by other volunteers. As a voluntary enterprise, it relies on the support of the public for its success.
The Hedon Museum is OPEN SATURDAYS and WEDNESDAYS 10 am – 4 pm every week from March until the end of November. IT’S FREE ENTRY!
Preston Show – Saturday 31 July.
PRESTON FAMILY SHOW DAY is the only annual and traditional village show that still takes place on a regular basis in the South West Holderness area. There are various competition classes that are free to enter. So whether you wish to show your creativity in the kitchen, with a brush, a camera, craft materials, or knitting needles, or show your passion for gardening with the very competitive flower, fruit, and vegetable competitions, there is something for you to enter in the show!
It’s not just the competitions though. There are stalls and charity stalls, hot & cold food, BBQ, children’s rides/activities, plus raffles and tombola. And look out for those classic cars! There will be a programme of live music and entertainment.
Saturday 31 July. Opened by a celebrity guest at 1.30 pm. Show gates open at 12.30 pm. Admission 50p. Charities and other good causes will benefit from the proceedings.
Venue: Grounds of Nag’s Head, Sproatley Road, Preston.
Ruben’s Voice Concert Hedon – Saturday 21 August.
A FREE LIVE MUSIC EVENT takes place on Saturday 21 August 2021 from 1 pm – 10 pm at Hedon Primary School (Ketwell Lane) Playing Field.
Perhaps the biggest event of the year in Hedon, there is an impressive and varied schedule of performers:
Ruben’s Voice has been set up by Katy Smith and seeks to establish a range of ongoing activities to help prevent teenage depression and suicide. It aims to promote better mental health for all. The concert is being held at Ketwell Lane Playing Field and is intended to be a major family event that can help bring people in the town together.
Do keep in touch with What’s On? in the local area. HU12 Online What’s On? is the only online space dedicated to promoting local activities and events. And of course, it’s free! Your event stays in the listings and is easy to find. Remember, a large proportion of the local population is not on social media and won’t know about your event. Make sure you reach that larger audience and get your event listed.
