HEDON Town Council has published its Town Calendar for 2016.
This year the calendar will appeal to aficionados of the town’s rich local history with each of the twelve monthly pages featuring a photo from Hedon in bygone days.
The images capture Hedon at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries and show well-known streets and places as they looked then. There’s a marvellous picture of the opening of the South Holderness cricket pavilion and the spectators’ stand at the Hedon Racecourse both now gone. There are old photos of the still-existing Shakespeare Inn and the Station Hotel.
“Great souvenir… make great Christmas and New Year presents!”
The photographs for the calendar have been provided from the collections of town Councillor John Dennis, Dr. Martin Craven historian and Honorary Freeman of Hedon and David Thompson.
The calendars cost £2.50 and went on sale on Friday. Town councillors were in the Hedon Market Place on Saturday selling over 20 of them from a street stall. There will be stalls selling the calendars each Wednesday and Saturday mornings at the Market Place and at the Christmas Lights event on Friday 27th November.
They are also available from Hedon Town Hall, St Augustine’s Gate, Hedon, HU12 8EX which is open from 9:00am to 3:00pm on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Tel: 01482 898428.
Proceeds from the calendar each year (once the costs of production are covered) are allocated towards the provision of community events and activities in the town.
