Mayor greets Charity Cyclists return to Hedon

After over 190 miles of cycling, the CRY charity fundraisers get the Hedon Mayor’s finishing line in sight! And Paul makes a dash for it….

Charity Cyclists greeted by MayorENTHUSIASTIC supporters including the Hedon Mayor and Mayoress greeted the return of the CRY Charity Cyclists to Hedon on Saturday 25th July 2015.

After clocking up an impressive 191 miles of cycling, Neal Everingham, Matty Smith, Wayne Pickersgill and Paul Wild crossed the makeshift finishing line ribbon held up by Hedon Mayor Councillor Neil Black and his wife the Mayoress Mrs Linda Black.

Cyclists head towards finishThe cyclists from Hedon, all members of the Hull Chain Gang cycling club, had set off from Morecambe on the Lancashire coast on Friday morning and completed the arduous Way of the Roses cycling route stopping overnight at the North Yorkshire town of Boroughbridge. From there the cyclists made their way to Hornsea before heading back to Hedon, with a couple of supporting cyclists, to cross the finishing line at the Haven Arms at 6.20pm.

Whilst keen cyclists who train regularly during the week, each member of the cycling quartet remarked upon how difficult the first-day uphill leg of the ride had been. But any signs of that rider stress seemed well-hidden by Neal, Matty, Wayne and Paul who were delighted and re-invigorated by the warm reception given to them by friends, family and supporters at the Haven Arms. The Hedon Mayor and Mayoress gave their official thanks on behalf of the town and on behalf of CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young) for the cyclists’ efforts in raising money for the charity.

The celebrations continued in the Haven Arms marquee where landlord Mark Hawksworth had prepared a traditional Hog Roast for sale (with some of the proceeds also being donated to CRY).

There is still ample opportunity to donate to CRY by visiting Neal Everingham’s Just Giving charity web page. It is anticipated that the collective sum raised for CRY from this event will be around £2,000.
