HEDON MAYOR John Dennis is a dark horse… by that we mean he has a ‘horse’ reserved for his charity race night, but as yet we don’t know what prowess it will have on the race track!?

John Dennis, Hedon’s 668th Mayor and Mayoress Mrs Jennifer Dennis, are organising the last of the Mayoral functions for their year in office which will be a Race Night held on Saturday 25th April at the Alexandra Hall in Hedon. All the proceeds will go to the Mayor’s Charity Fund, the main recipient of which is Prostate Cancer UK. Read more at Mayor’s Charity Funds.
Doors to the Alexandra Hall will open at 7pm with the first race run at 7:30pm.
“This is to be the very last event of the Mayoral year,” said John Dennis “and I’m hoping for a sell out. Ticket sales are already going well, and thanks to the generosity of Hedon’s local shopkeepers, I’ve sold every race sponsorship but anyone can sponsor a horse for only £5 and for that you can give it a name – an excellent opportunity to have a light hearted dig at your mate/spouse/partner!”
“All proceeds of course will go to the Mayor’s Charity, and I can promise a really good night out (although whether you end up a winner is anyone’s guess).”
Doors to the Alexandra Hall will open at 7pm with the first race run at 7:30pm.
Entry will be by ticket at (£2.50) available from the Dennis Estate Agents Office on 21 St Augustine’s Gate, Hedon, telephone 01482 897129.
Licensed Bar available and charity hot dogs prepared by Hedon Women’s Institute.

The Race Night turned out brilliantly. What a great time we all had, and we raised around £450 for the charity.
Jennifer and I want to thank all concerned for their help in arranging and running the event, particularly Big Al the race compere for providing the entertainment and moving things along, to the ladies of the WI for preparing their excellent Hot Dogs, to the bar staff and doorman, and to Jennifer, Sue, Chris and Sandy for sorting out the tickets, selling the horses and raffle tickets and taking the bets on the Tote!
And most importantly, thank you to everyone who came along. I hope you all had an enjoyable, and profitable (which I doubt !) evening.
John P. Dennis,
668th Mayor of Hedon
Still some tickets to go – It’s OK to Pay on the Door. only £2.50 for a great night out.
Just a reminder if you’ve not got your tickets yet, they are only £2.50 each and we have an excellent compere running the event.
And in case it’s of interest, the WI will be selling hot-dogs.
It goes without saying there is a bar too.
