WE HAVE a keen sense of history on the Hedon Blog – and after visiting the new Scott’s Barbershop at 6 Souttergate yesterday, we discovered that the new business is based on the site of a previous Barbershop: CW Fawcett.
Scott Gleadow has set up his barbershop with traditional colours and includes a barbershop pole very similar if not identical to the one used by his predecessor. Scott has a photograph of the Fawcett shop which we’ve reproduced below.
Scott, who lives in Thorngumbald but has lived in Hedon too, is delighted to have set up his own business after some encouragement from friends and family. He worked in Hull for most of the 20 years learning his trade and welcomes the fact that he no longer has to do that long commute to work everyday!
Scott knows lots of people in the area and that will obviously benefit his business, but he’s not sitting on his laurels and was out leafleting Hedon Market yesterday. He is in a good spot in the town but is keen to promote the shop confident that once people come they will opt to return regularly.
He says his child friendly barber seat – in the design of a racing car – is already proving popular with parents who are bringing their children in. Scott says he’s here for the long-term and expects that many of those children being served today will go on to be his customers of tomorrow!
The shop is open for traditional and modern cuts, on:
- Monday – Wednesday from 9am – 5:30pm.
- Thursdays from 9am – 7:30pm.
- Friday 9:00am – 7:30pm.
- Saturday 7:30am – 3pm.
Can you remember Fawcett’s? Any information you can provide about this predecessor shop to Scott’s would be most appreciated!
