MALC RIPLEY gives us an introduction to the up-and-coming 2014 cricket season:
Considering, sadly, that the East Yorkshire Cricket Alliance became defunct last September, all eyes will now be focused towards a brand new season that gets under way either on Saturday 26th April, or on the following Saturday.
The three local Clubs, namely South Holderness Cricket Club (SHCC), Humbleton CC and Roos CC will break fresh ground, with all local cricket being now under the umbrella of either the York & District Senior League (Y&DSCL) or their counterparts – the York Eastern Conference, which formerly existed as the East Riding Independent League some three years ago.
The Hedon based Club SHCC will figure in the Y&DSCL in the restructured League, Division 4 (East), with the new venture of zoning of the teams, in an attempt to reduce travelling times and the resulting costs. This idea will occur in all Divisions apart from the York Premier and division One, as these remain unchanged.
SHCC will open their campaign, with their 1st Xl entertaining the strong Hill Top CC on 3rd May, with prolific opener and the left-handed Rich Ingram – (838 runs at 39.90 in 2013) – at the helm once more. A week later, they travel to their old and former ER Pennant Alliance rivals Brandesburton CC, on their compact Rial ground. Old friendships hopefully will be renewed.
The An Xl also begin on 3rd May, this time in East Hull against Pelican CC with Keiron Metcalfe the Skipper again. They compete in the Conference division 3, their second game being at home to Skirlaugh CC.
Both teams having a total of 18 matches.
All the Clubs are wished much very enjoyable cricket, with a lot of sunshine!
Note: The SHCC Club has a new improved website at http://southholdernesscc.play-cricket.com – for the 2014 fixtures, click Matches >> Fixtures and then on the drop-down Quick Search menu pick 2014 Season.
