THIS YEAR’S Poppy Appeal 2013 is winding down. Behind the scenes, the appeal started in July, with the ordering of new boxes, wreaths and poppies, and will continue throughout the year until we start again next July.
The Royal British Legion (RBL) Poppy Appeal organiser, Mrs Jacky Towers, and her team of trusted volunteers, have excelled themselves once again.
At the present time the amount banked is nearly £9,000, which is approximately over £1,600 more than last year. We have to thank the big Co-op, who allow us each year to collect money. This year we raised over £1,000 more at the Co-op than last year. The committee would also like to thank the RBL Ladies Section, who also surpassed their last year’s total with their street collections.
Thanks must also go to all the local traders, pubs, and schools for their continued support and generosity. Well done to Preston Primary School, winners of the shield for the most collected – almost £200 – an amazing amount. Inman’s Primary was only £10 behind them. Thank you to them and all the schools.
Thank you also to all the volunteer collectors – Mr Gilbert Warley raised almost £1,700 at the co-op – a truly amazing amount which will be difficult to beat next year.
Thank you to Lloyds Bank in Hedon who have patiently and happily counted all of our money bags, and last but not least thank you everyone who put their pennies and their pounds into our collecting boxes – your generosity is much appreciated.
