The following summary from Jim Lindop is an overview from recent Hedon Town Council meetings. They are based on discussions from the meeting and should not be taken as any official record. They are provided here for resident’s information and interest:

  • Work will start on Monday 4th March to construct a natural filter system near to Horsewell Pond, when the plants are established in the filters a swale (shallow ditch) will be cut to bring water from Market Hill through the filters into the pond. The filters need to be completed before the amphibians return.

  • The Council have appointed a working party to formulate plans for the Town Hall to become a Wedding venue; however negotiations are ongoing with The Alexandra Hall to fund the refurbishment of the Town Hall toilets prior to applying for the licence.

  • The council have taken over the control as trustees of Elsie Gate field down Ivy Lane. Some areas will need clearing and a tree survey undertaken.

  • A new Community Notice Board is nearing completion; this will be positioned to the front of the metal seat in the Market Place, to advertise Hedon community events.

  • Funding is available and plans are nearing a final stage for an extension to the Far Bank skate park.

  • Arrangements are nearing completion for a WWII memorial to commemorate civilians killed during air raids in Hedon, this may be positioned in the Town Hall entrance hall.

  • Discussions have taken place in regard to the Hedon Silver being displayed with the Hull and Trinity House silver in a building on the Trinity House site in Hull, the silver would still be under the ownership of Hedon and may be returned in part or whole, when required by the council.

  • Hedon Town Council members have initiated a change to the 2006 Hedon Conservation Area appraisal to include the land to the west of Station Lane, and east the area known as Whytchcroft and Watson Park, as important open spaces within the Town in an effort to protect them from any development in the future.
