On Monday I visited the new Potters Cabin in Market Place, Hedon. It’s for everyone of all ages and is such a lovely place for the artistically minded.
The pottery pieces they sell are made of plain off-white designer bisque so you can paint your own design on mugs, teapots and plates etc. There are also decorative ornaments and figurines such as vases, animals and money boxes.
For a small fee Chris Phillips (the owner) will put your work of art in the kiln. The final piece will have a beautiful glaze and is something that you can treasure as a wonderful keepsake or give to someone as a unique gift.
If you prefer, you can buy a gift box to give to someone. You can choose up to 15 different coloured paints which cost £1.20 each (only the paints provided can be used due to the firing process) and a piece of pottery to paint which costs £10-£25 depending which item you choose. The studio fee for firing and glazing is a small additional cost which must be paid at the time of purchase.
Gift vouchers for £5 and £10 are also available (currently with an expiry date of 28 Feb 2013)
The turnaround time for firing and glazing is approximately one week.
While I was there two potential customers came into the shop to see what it was all about. The lady said she was impressed and that it was just what Hedon needed, something unusual and different.
There is plenty of room for doing your artwork with three tables downstairs and four tables upstairs so around 24 people can be seated in total.
The Potters Cabin also offers a mobile party service where they can come to your home or a venue of your choice at a date and time to suit you for a unique and different way of celebrating a big occasion in your life (e.g. birthday, hen party, new baby)

Basic Option
£10 per person which includes:
Studio fees (for paint, materials, glaze & kiln firing of the peices)
An item of pottery from the ‘basic’ or ‘collectable’ range
A celebration plate uniquely painted by the party guests

Premier/Themed Party Option
£12.16 per person which includes:

A selection of pottery pieces to choose from: Cupcakes/Animals/Money Boxes/Vases/Plate or Bauble

Chris is planning to get a sofa where customers can sit and relax with friends and enjoy a hot or cold drink and a slice of cake. Then to end their stay, paint their own individual piece of bisque pottery.
Just before I left the kiln arrived so everything will soon be up and running and Chris said that after the New Year she is hoping to open seven days a week.
