Remembrance Sunday 2012 in Hedon

Remembrance Parade Salute to Hedon Mayor – from 2010

REMEMBRANCE SUNDAY Parade and Service – 11th November 2012

The Royal British Legion, Hedon Town Council and other local organisations will parade from the Market Place, Hedon on Sunday 11th November 2012 at 10.40am.

The parade will make its way to St.Augustine’s Church, Hedon for a service at 11.00am.

Following the service, an Act of Remembrance will take place at the Cenotaph at Hedon Town Cemetery.

Remembrance Day was established to commemorate the end of The Great War on “the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month” following the signing of the Armistice in 1918.

At 11am, two minutes of silence will be observed across the United Kingdom. This continues a tradition started by King George V on November 11th, 1919.

Now, commonly referred to as Poppy Day, November 11th is also the day when we remember all those who have served, fought and made sacrifices in wars and conflicts since 1918.
