Hedon Town Council – reporting on its meetings

9:56 am

THE HEDON BLOG intends to report on the meetings of Hedon Town Council in a much more deliberate and consistent way – particularly through regularly attending its meetings.

Members of the public and the press are entitled to attend Town Council meetings (except when the council discusses matters of a private nature which requires the public to leave). And the Government is keen that ‘bloggers’ and ‘armchair auditors’ play a role in helping to publicise and share information about the workings and decision-making of local town halls.

The Town Council regularly posts up notices of its meetings on the Town Hall Notice board – a case in point is the agenda for tonight’s Finance and General Purposes meeting which contains many items which might be of interest to the town’s residents:

Freedom of Information, dog-fouling, gulley clearing, Hedon Christmas Lights, Holderness Gazette’s ‘Community Champion’, flood prevention, alleged speeding, grants finder, are all items, amongst 38 in total, on the Agenda tonight!

Alas! The Hedon Blogger cannot attend tonight’s meeting, which as you can see has a packed agenda – but other residents from the town may care to attend and send in their observations and notes to the Hedon Blog?

Councillor Jim Lindop, in a personal capacity, continues to provide a great service by regularly keeping local residents informed of what goes on at the Town Council through his informal notes (see example) sent to the Hedon Blog. But other members of the public just might wish to get involved in sharing this information as well!
