HEDON TOWN COUNCIL: The following summary from Jim Lindop is an overview from Hedon Town Council meetings in August and September. They are based on discussions from the meeting and should not be taken as any official record. They are provided here for resident’s information and interest.
Horsewell Pond: Meetings have again taken place to discuss the restoration of Horsewell Pond down Ivy Lane. Following advice from Yorkshire Wildlife Trust a mechanical digger dug a pond at a higher level so that when the upper pond is full then the water would cascade from the highest to the lowest level which hopefully still has a working spring.
The council made a commitment to provide the funds for drainworks, pipework and an interceptor tank to take water runoff from Market Hill into the pond, this will cost £10,000.
The two ponds require work to dig out, one will be lined. The nettles are to be cleared by BP Rugby Union Football club members on Sunday 7th Oct, then any remaining roots will need spraying, but as it is near the pond this has to be carried out by Yorkshire Wildlife Trust personnel who carry the necessary licence. Following this it is hoped that Vivergo Fuels will supply wild flower seeds to be placed around the pond.
The council may apply for funding to provide information boards (possibly £1000 to £3000) adjacent to the pond which will be linked to an education project with local primary schools.
Wedding Venue: The Town Hall may become a venue for Weddings, at present we are looking a revamp of the toilets which are shared with Alexandra Hall.
Allotments: The council is looking at the provision of allotments near the cemetery and at present are discussing this with English Heritage and the Environment Agency.
Elsie Gate Field: The council have received an offer of a gift to take over the ownership of Elsie Gate field down Ivy Lane.
Flower Planters: Additional flower planters are to be constructed possibly using the old Hedon cobbles and placed near the Hedon signs on Preston Road, Burstwick Road and Paull Road.
Horse Shelter: It was agreed with conditions for the lease holders of Ivy Lane field to place a temporary shelter for the two horses currently using it.
Miscellaneous: The council also discussed to consider a request to install a bench in the cemetery, to survey the headstones in the cemetery, to review the rules and regulations, a health and safety issue with loose stones and slates around monuments, to consider a quotation to redecorate the woodwork within the Town Hall, a proposed notice board in Distaff Lane for community use, the provision of a lectern for Council use and the sale price of Christmas trees which will remain the same as last year.
Residents are advised that if they have any concerns that they want to discuss or place before the Council, they should contact one of the councillors or the Town Clerk at the Town Hall.
