Still seeking views of Preston Residents – Traffic Fears

8:24 am

FOLLOWING OUR article in July on Monster Wheels accident risk in Preston and our request for information on traffic flows through the village, the East Riding Council has provided the following data about the overall numbers of crashes, which shows five serious accidents and fourteen slight accidents since 2006:

Do these figures reveal the full story about this problem? Do they redress the fears amongst villagers about dangerous traffic? We need to hear from residents about their experiences and concerns about traffic in the village.

  1. John, I am confused by your message. What do you mean I spent an hour in Preston? I have lived in Preston ALL my life as have 4 generations of my family……
and as I have commented on another message from you about me if you read the above I challenged the above statistics and commented that it would be interesting to disect the above!
There does need to be something done about speeding in our village.
    Thank you

  2. S Goodwin spent apprx 1hr having a look around Preston if its that safe I challenge her to ride her bike around Preston including Staithes lane, cross the road in weghill, lets wait for something bad to happen because at the moment we have been lucky these roads are that bad its taking our human rights away to walk to the post office and back without feeling safe,
Come on people of Preston do something.

  3. The figures do show there have been no accidents at all this year so that is good news. 2009 only had 2 accidents and 2010 only had 4 slight accidents and 1 serious. Perhaps it would be interesting to compare these statistics with another similar size village with the same commuter traffic. It would also be interesting to know out of these accidents how many are cars and how many involve ‘big wheels’.
I am not making light of these figures I just think for the amount of traffic that comes through the village these figures seem very low.
However there is a problem with cars speeding into and out of the village on Staithes Road.
