Yorkshire Water Smells Campaign hits the news!

2:37 pm

RESIDENTS CAMPAIGNING against the Yorkshire Water Saltend Smells were in the news today! And it all started from a simple text message from Jo Gardner to BBC Radio Humberside complaining about the odours. That text message lead to interviews with radio, TV and press.

Cllr Ann Suggit, BBC’s Olivia Cubberley, Jo and Zak Gardner

BBC Radio Humberside interviewed Jo from Paull and Ray Duffill from Hedon in the Market Place this morning about the problem of the smells and the campaign to get them eliminated. They were joined by Hedon Mayor and East Riding Councillor Ann Suggit who spoke about the 11-year campaign to get Yorkshire Water to comply with its previous no smells pledges.

The campaigners then whizzed off to Paull where a group of Main Street residents explained to BBC Look North about the effects of the smells on their quality of life.

The Hull Daily Mail was next to cover the story with photos taken in front of the treatment works.

  1. I live in ceylon street and without fail at some time during the week a disgusting smell comes up through the drains in the street as well as the drain in the back yard. Sometimes when we are doing the washing up the stench works its way up into the sink through the waste water pipe. People shouldnt have to live like this.

  2. could Ray dufill get in touch with grin.group@yahoo.co.uk as Louise above states we need to all rally together i set the facebook page up for resident of east Hull and would like some sort of meeting to take place with Yorkshire Water and residents of the affected areas

  3. Saw the reports on Look North, residents of east Hull have set up a facebook page which within a few days has almost 300 members. We too are sick to death of the stench we have to endure, it is truly not acceptable. We have to keep our windows closed, cannot hang washing out, can’t enjoy summer nights and actually long for winter to come!! If we can all get together if you hold a meeting sometime it would be great to get Hull and East Riding people together as I believe in power in numbers. If we unite our voices we might be heard and taken notice of!!
