NORA JONES has sent this comment into the Blog regarding the recent road closures on Sunday 17th July 2011:
“ROAD CLOSURES IN HEDON due to re-surfacing work have been well advertised..”, says Nora Jones, “…but it seems that not everybody who drives was aware of them.
Station Lane was closed from early morning and a LARGE sign and cones were placed at the northern entrance to Station Lane to inform drivers approaching from Preston or Souttergate. Despite this sign saying, “ROAD AHEAD CLOSED – ACCESS ONLY”, several hundred drivers carried on speeding down Station Lane and then had to perform a three-point-turn to find another route.
It is a miracle that there were no collisions – although there is still time before the road opens again. What makes drivers read and understand a sign and then ignore it? (Yes, I am speaking as a driver!)”
