HEDON TOWN COUNCIL: The following summary from Jim Lindop is a
personal overview from Hedon Town Council meetings in May and June. They are based on discussions from the meeting and should not be taken as any official record. They are provided here for resident’s information and interest.
- Full planning permission was sought for the erection of a single storey extension to the side of 4 Poultney Garth and for a Certificate of Lawfulness for existing use as a taxi office by Holderness Cars in George Street, both applications were supported.
- An application was sought for the erection of two 85m Wind Turbines at land west of The Limes Staithes Road, within Preston Parish, this was not supported, as the application would create a precedent for similar applications within the area, residential amenity loss due to noise, overshadowing and effect on vista, nearby residential property may suffer a loss of monetary value, that this development would result in the spread of industrial boundaries and that European recommendations state that development such as this should be 2km from residencies.
- The Town Hall Kitchen refurbishment and new central/water heating boilers should be completed within the next few days.
- Much discussion centred on the restoration of the Towns Ancient Charters, two of which are to be sent for restoration shortly and the others at a later date and a suitable cabinet purchased for future storage.
- A design was submitted and wording discussed which it is hoped will be placed on rear of the Hedon Town signs, which are located on the roadways as you enter Hedon, it was also decided to initially purchase two flower planters, which will be positioned near the signs on the Hull/New Road (B1362) entrance near to Farrand Road and the Thorn Road entrance (B1240).
- Consideration was given to the table of Charges for the Cemetery; the decision was made not to increase the charges.
- Members of the Council have met with a representative for the East Riding of Yorkshire Council to look at the provision of a drain to bring rain water from Market Hill into Horsewell (Ducking) Pond on Ivy Lane. It is hoped that the pond can be excavated, possibly in the late autumn.
- The Chairman of each committee have been asked to provide a short article on their committees activities and achievements, to give residents an insight into the work of Hedon Town Council which is intended to be placed within the Holderness Heartbeat publication in July.
