Northcliffe Media to introduce LocalPeople

9:07 am

HedonPeople would be the title of a new website service that is quite possibly coming to the town in the near future.

The LocalPeople network has been developed by Northcliffe Media which is the extensive newspaper group that owns 115 newspapers across Europe including our own Hull Daily Mail.

The LocalPeople sites aim to serve the local community by providing a space online where locals can freely interact and connect with each other about what’s important to them within their distinct neighbourhood. The websites aim to be part-social networking, part-forum and a place to advertise local businesses.

HedonPeople.co.uk has been registered as a domain-name to Northcliffe Media.

The Hedon Blog would welcome the arrival of this new kid on the block – albeit a big kid! – because it could help focus online interest in the town, its people and activities. It could also help convince local businesses that there are important online advertising opportunities available that they can – and should – take advantage of.

As editor of the Hedon Blog, I have submitted a request to LocalPeople asking them how we might help them in any venture into the town. The new site would have to rely on local people for its source of local news – something this Blog has been working on for over two years now – we can help with this. Hopefully, the new website would also see more reporting resources focussed on Hedon – helping to bring together a rich stream of news, views and information about the town.

We would look forward to working with this new initiative.

To have a look at what the website would look like visit BroughPeople and BriggPeople.

  1. It’s an excellent concept Ray and one that should be supported – so long as it doesn’t damage your own Hedon Blog that you’ve worked so hard on. Northcliffe is a massive organisation – it owns so many companies in the world of media – and whilst they’re maybe not as ‘meglomaniacal’ as the Murdoch lot, you’ll need to keep an eye on ’em!

    1. John – The Hedon Blog has brought together a number of contributors in the the town who act as its ‘eyes and ears’ when it comes to new developments. I wouldn’t be able to continue if it weren’t for those Hedon ‘bloggers on the beat’ who regularly send me news, photos, notice of events, spot problems, and give me their views and other observations.

Our small but growing band of people who make the Blog what it is – I feel, will ensure its survival and continued success.

  2. Nice post Ray. Glad to hear you’d welcome a Local People site in Hedon. If we do develop plans in the future I’ll be sure to get in touch. And may I also say the Hedon Blog is one of the best hyperlocals I’ve seen in this region. Best, Paul, Northcliffe Digital/Hull

    1. Thanks Paul. Flattery will just about….. get you anywhere! Thanks for the kind comments.

I take a lot of inspiration from online colleagues and friends who are running hyperlocal websites under the Talk About Local umbrella. However locally it is Paul Smith and the magnificent HU17.net covering Beverley that leads the way. If I were able to match Paul’s website skills, photography, passion for his place, and sheer drive and determination – I would be happy!
