‘TIS THE SEASON to be jolly! Yes – it’s that time of year already! The popular ‘Switch On’ celebration of the town lights takes place in Hedon Market Place on Friday 26th November, 2010.

The lights will be switched on by Hedon Town Mayor, Brenda Goldspink, at 6:30pm, but the fun really starts at 6:00pm with stalls, children’s rides and KCFM 99.8 conducting a live broadcast. Father Christmas will be setting up a temporary lodge in the Town Hall whilst his sleigh will be looked after by the Holderness Lions. Some of the local shops are expected to be open and their Christmas window displays are usually a real attractive feature of the event.
This is always a popular night in the town. The Market Place Christmas Tree, the focus of traditional carol singing on the night, will be the largest of nearly 100 other trees around the town centre.
The town centre roads will be closed for the night from 5:00pm – 9:30pm and EYMS bus services will be diverted accordingly.
Ooo.. Next Friday!
Re. PA system. I have a very LOUD and high quality PA system with radio mic that has been used (for free) at previous switch-ons, up until three years ago when KCFM were broadcasting live – I assume the Town Council thought that the KCFM setup would be sufficient.
If a 2nd system is wanted – I used to setup underneath Skeltons canopy (Cooplands) I’d be happy to help out again…..
The Town Council have my contact details (I think) so if it’s wanted, the offer is there.
Cheers,
James.
I think a traditional Christmas pub crawl is called for on Christmas Lights night, Mark!
Due to the road been closed for the christmas lights switch on, I will have to be at the Kings Head, Souttergate, Hedon early.
This means I will be starting at the earlier time of 6pm with Karaoke and not our ussual time of 7:30.
Just one tip based on last year’s fantastic event:
A better public address system, if affordable, just might make the whole thing that little bit more enjoyable, allowing people to hear the official commentary and count-down and feel more involved.
Just a thought.
