The Falcon "a traditional village pub" from Withernwick Village Website

THE WITHERNWICK VILLAGE WEBSITE announced a milestone yesterday. For the first time the community website which charts the life of the small village near Aldborough had 1,000 hits in one month. This is a great achievement considering the village only has a population of 500!

It is even a more remarkable feat given that the site webmaster Paul Boyle is currently working in Kuwait and manages the site from there – something he can only do with the support of villagers back home.

The Withernwick Community website gives us a real ‘slice of life’ in the village over the last year (the site was started in December 2008). From browsing the site you begin to pick up on the issues and people that make the village tick. A commentary on the latest village news, a section on the village pub (or should that be ‘Hub’) The Falcon, the history of the place, the wildlife in the area, a Pet’s Corner, and local  Hobbies are all covered in this entertaining website.

I use the word ‘entertaining’ because from browsing the site you begin to feel you know the place and care about the people featured – just like watching a soap opera on the TV!

I particularly like the Photo and Video Gallery and the video of the re-opening of the Falcon in August 2009.

Also Paul’s Kuwait Blog and commentary of his time spent there is also very interesting and – like the Withernwick website itself – quite compulsive reading and viewing!

Keep up the good work Withernwick and Paul!
