A SMALL VICTORY!

Supporters of HOTI (Hull and Holderness Opposing The Incinerator) must surely be celebrating tonight as the news ripples out that East Riding Council and Hull City Council will not be pursuing private cash to finance the development of a waste burning incinerator near Hedon.

John Skidmore from the East Riding Council, quoted in the Hull Daily Mail, explains that some banks have pulled out of the market for funding such initiatives and others are lending at considerably higher interest rates. These difficulties mean that this method of financing the incinerator are considered uneconomic. However, both councils still remain committed to the waste incinerator proposal.

Meanwhile HOTI’s press officer John Dennis is still encouraging people to turn out in force for tomorrow’s march. The hundreds of protesters expected tomorrow will have a small victory to celebrate but the battle is far from over!
