Paull’s ‘Pease Pudding Hot’ published in print!

CONGRATULATIONS go to Lorraine Ellis! The Holderness Gazette reports that the Paull based author is to get her book Pease Pudding Hot published as a paperback.

The book charts the moving story of Joe Sharp who is trapped in a world that doesn’t understand his schizophrenia – including the voices in his head that haunt and taunt him – and his experiences of being sectioned in hospital. The title of the book refers to the rhyme that Joe sings to block out the nasty voices.

The novel has already been published as an e-book by Chipmunka Publishing as reported on the Blog in 2009.

Love You 2 Coffee Morning

A LOVE YOU 2 Coffee Morning is being held in Preston on Sunday 22nd August 2010 from 10.ooam until 2.00pm.

The event which involves a raffle, golfing game, train rides, cake stall and tombola takes place at Kirklands, 4 Kirk Road, Preston. Entry is by donation. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to bring their friends!

All proceeds from the event will go to the Dove House Hospice Love You 2 appeal.

To support the completion of major re-development works at its Chamberlain Road, Hull base, Dove House needs to raise an extra £2.5m in the next two and half years, in addition to funding already being generated for day to day running costs – this is equivalent to raising an additional £2.00 per minute.

St Augustine’s Facelift

ST AUGUSTINE’S CHURCH is having a facelift – as the observant amongst you will have noticed! The ten-week project, began at the beginning of the month and will involve roofing and masonry repairs.
Some of the original carvings have been eroded over time and the work will involve replacing these – including one of the gargoyles.

The work is being completed by William Anelay Ltd who are York based specialists in such restoration work at a cost believed to be around £100,000.

Drawing Course

Different drawing pencils

JANET THACKRAY is holding a series of Drawing Courses across Holderness. On September 15th 2010 the Patrington based artist and water-colour painter brings her considerable talents to Hedon and is offering a 2-hour lesson in Drawing.

The course costs £10 and will take place at the Red Cross Building on Sheriff Highway on Wednesday September 15th from 10am – 12 noon.

Janet who has exhibited her work all over the North of England believes that learning to draw is the first essential artistic skill and apparently her own sketch books are full of pencil and pen-and-wash drawings.

Inmans Primary Re-build

THE RE-BUILDING of Inmans Primary School is well under way. The school was hit by the floods of 2007 but had also suffered from floodwater damage in 2000.

The school is being re-built on higher ground (the old school playing field) using funding awarded by the Government for such flood-hit schools. It is expected to re-open in 2011.

Once the building is in use the old school will be demolished and turned into a playing field so the school doesn’t lose any facilities.

NOTE: The U.K. Health and Safety Executive (HSE) recently sent a message to parents that building sites are not playgrounds. As school holidays are well underway in Britain, the HSE encourages parents to warn their children of the dangers of playing on construction sites.

Illegal Parking / Obstruction in Hedon Town Centre

THE NEIGHBOURHOOD POLICE Team have been responding to a request by Hedon Town Council and local traders to have a zero tolerance approach on illegal parking in and around the town centre.

The Police Team report that they have held a site meeting with East Riding of Yorkshire Council Highways officers and as a result the double yellow lines have been repainted and are now clearly visible. New signage has been supplied.
